The semiconductor industry is the foundation of the information industry, and the information industry is the driving force for the development of the semiconductor industry. According to the research of the Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, mobile Internet is the fifth technological development cycle of the information industry after mainframe, minicomputer, personal computer and traditional Internet. The development speed of mobile Internet is obviously faster than that of traditional Internet. Its scale is larger and it is gradually penetrating into people's lives. The mobile Internet industry will also reshape the pattern of the global semiconductor industry.

Experts from the Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion Center believe that the global semiconductor industry and its surrounding industries are shifting from PC to mobile communication and wireless fields, thus gradually transitioning to the mobile Internet era. Data shows that the semiconductor industry dominated by PC market has gradually lost its leading position in the past, while the ARM architecture processors mainly used in smart phones and tablets are becoming popular in the market, and major companies around the world are also actively deploying to seize the growing mobile Internet market.

From the market situation, the global semiconductor industry experienced a rapid growth of up to 30% in 2010, but suddenly slowed down in 2011. The earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, as well as the floods in Thailand, have had a significant impact on the supply and demand of the global semiconductor market. According to data from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales revenue increased by 5.4% year-on-year in 2011, but the wireless semiconductor market, represented by smartphones and tablets, continued to grow. According to iSuppli data, in 2011, the wireless semiconductor market accounted for 17.5% of global semiconductor sales revenue, demonstrating market influence. Although research institutions are not optimistic about the growth prospects of the semiconductor market this year, they unanimously believe in the development potential of the wireless semiconductor market in 2012. Gartner predicts that global mobile phone sales will increase by 7.5% in 2012, while tablet sales will increase by 63%. Smartphones and tablets will support the growth of the global semiconductor industry in 2012. Gartner believes that by 2015, smartphones, tablets, and solid-state drives will contribute a total of 77% to the growth of the semiconductor market.

From a regional structure perspective, there is a clear trend of the global semiconductor industry's focus continuing to shift towards the Asia Pacific region. Experts from the Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion Center stated that in recent years, the proportion of the Asia Pacific market has continued to rise among the four major regional markets worldwide, while Japan and Europe have seen a significant decline, and the US market has remained relatively stable. Affected by various factors such as the market, in recent years, international semiconductor companies have begun to gradually transfer relatively low tech and labor-intensive industrial chain links to China, making China's semiconductor industry gradually become a part of the international industrial chain. The output and value have rapidly increased, but the product technology content and added value are relatively low. Among them, packaging testing has developed the fastest and largest scale in China, while IC design, which is in the upstream, has become the weakest link, and the chip manufacturing industry is in between the two. At present, multinational corporations have gradually shifted chip manufacturing to China, and domestic enterprises are developing rapidly. However, the characteristics of this industrial structure are low profit levels and weak pricing power. The fundamental reason for this situation is the low level of technology, the basic dependence on imports for high-end core chips, key equipment and materials, and the control of relevant standards and patents by others.

To change this situation, it is necessary to accurately grasp the development trends of technology and applications, fully utilize the major development opportunities brought by industry reshuffle, and occupy the high ground of industrial development. At present, the global semiconductor industry pattern will gradually change with the arrival of the mobile Internet era. These changes will be reflected in both technology and market, and will certainly change from quantitative change to qualitative change. Chinese semiconductor enterprises should firmly grasp this trend, leverage their strengths and weaknesses, give full play to China's advantages in mobile terminal consumption and manufacturing, improve the overall technological level and competitive strength of China's semiconductor industry, achieve the transformation and upgrading of China's semiconductor industry, strive to occupy a more favorable position in the global semiconductor industry pattern, and lay a more solid foundation for the takeoff of China's information industry.
