The China Semiconductor Lighting/LED Industry and Application Alliance was established in Beijing on the 6th, aiming to accumulate advantageous resources in the industry, coordinate and promote technological innovation, and truly benefit the general public with domestically produced LED products, achieving healthy and sustainable development of the LED industry.

The LED industry is one of the most promising strategic emerging industries in the world, characterized by high industrial growth, rapid technological progress, strong driving force, and broad market prospects. Major countries and regions around the world are vigorously developing the LED industry, with the United States, Japan, and the European Union leading the way, while South Korea and China are rapidly developing.

China has successively introduced multiple policy measures to effectively promote the rapid development of the LED industry. Data shows that in 2011, the output value of China's LED industry reached 154 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22%, and the output increased by 50%. The technological innovation capability has significantly improved, and the gap with the international advanced level is constantly narrowing. The application fields of the product have extended from mature areas such as indicator display and landscape lighting to areas such as large-sized LCD backlight, car lights, road lighting, and general lighting. It is expected that the industry's output value will reach 200 billion yuan in 2012, a year-on-year increase of 30%.

In order to accumulate advantageous resources in the industry, coordinate and promote independent innovation of common key technologies in LED, research industrial development strategies, and truly benefit the general public with domestically produced LED products, China has established the Semiconductor Lighting/LED Industry and Application Alliance.

Yang Xueshan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the alliance will further promote the establishment and improvement of the standard system, coordinate the establishment of patent pools and intellectual property public service platforms, do a good job in the top-level design of industrial development, study industrial development strategies, plans, and policy measures, and play a positive role in regulating the industry and promoting its healthy and sustainable development.
